The Unit for the Social Study of Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell was formed by Professor Simon Dyson in 2001. The current director is Dr Maria Berghs.
The TASC Unit undertakes research on all social aspects of sickle cell and thalassaemia including: sickle cell in schools; sickle cell and employment; sickle cell and screening; sickle cell in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria; sickle cell trait and deaths in state contact, and sickle cell trait and athletics.
